HP Compaq nx7400 quirks


I was trying to install windows 2003 on my portable after I uninstalled vista from it. When I ran setup it didn’t find any harddisks. Not kowing that this portable has got a SATA Hd I tried dozens of tricks to get the thing going, but none were succesful. Finally a couple of hours later I read on a forum that the little bastard has got a bios setting called SATA Native Mode and that I should set that to disabled. When I did this everyhting was fine and I could install my other OS.

    I was wondering if you ever had problems getting the “fn” keys to work. Initially after i installed win2003 on my nx7400 i could only use the fn+f3(standby mode). but then i installed the HP ProtectTools Security Manager. In it is Bios Config -> System Config -> Device Config. The first option “Swap FN/Ctrl Key” allowed me to swap the keys. But now i can only use the Ctrl+f9 / Ctrl+f10 (control brightness) and Ctrl+f4 (external monitor) when i have logged off from win2003. Are you facing the same problem? Is there a better way out of it? Sorry for the lengthy comment. :)
